Below you will find brief descriptions of all the positions that J.D. Barnes Limited
recruits for from time to time. Our current company vacancies are listed above,
however, we are pleased to accept Résumés from individuals who
possess qualifications for any position. Please note that while experience is preferred,
we do hire individuals for entry-level opportunities as they become available.
CAD Technologist
Candidates must be able to perform survey adjustments and
calculations with GEM and to draft and process topographic
information with AutoCad, MicroStation and Softdesk. Previous experience
in a similar capacity is mandatory. Previous experience in
construction layout calculations would be an asset. Candidates
should be a graduate of a Survey or Civil Engineering Program.
Survey CAD Operators/Calculators work out of all our offices.

Survey Party Chief
Applicants should have experience using a variety of survey
instruments (Total Station, transits, levels, etc.), strong
mathematical ability and proven supervisory skills. Please
note that these jobs require you to work out-of-doors and
carry various pieces of survey equipment from site to site.
Party Chiefs work out of all our offices.
Survey Assistants
This position requires that you assist the Party Chief (help
crew leader) with measurements, instruments, calculations
and so forth. You will be responsible for operating held equipment
such as transits, levels, Total Stations, data collectors,
etc. Please note that this position takes place out-of-doors
and demands a certain degree of physical strength as you must
carry equipment to and from site to site. Survey Assistants
work out of all our offices.
Survey CAD Technologist
Candidates must be capable of calculating and drafting plans
of subdivision and plans of survey in a CAD environment, preferably
MicroStation. Previous experience in a similar capacity
is mandatory, as are exceptional communication skills. Field
and office experience are assets. Survey CAD Technologists work out
of all our offices.
Ontario Land Surveyors
and Articling Students
Successful applicants will be required to supervise field
crews and CAD operators in cadastral and construction survey
environments. Candidates should possess a thorough knowledge
of CAD systems - preferably MicroStation - and a good understanding
of Total Station and Data Collector technology. Working knowledge
of Global Positioning Systems is an asset and superior communication
skills are essential. Preference will be given to applicants
possessing a Bachelors' Degree in Survey Science or the equivalent.
Candidates should exhibit skills which provide them with the
ability to supervise field and office staff working in a team
environment to meet client needs in the land development and
building industries. We offer an employee share ownership
plan and a performance bonus plan to those who are eligible.
Project Surveyor
This position involves the management of projects related to legal surveys,
housing surveys, pre-engineering surveys for highway engineering projects, geodetic
control surveys and construction layout. This position is also responsible for the
supervision of field crews and CAD operators in a cadastral, geodetic and
construction survey environment.
Candidates should possess a good understanding of Microstation or AutoCAD / LDD
systems as well as Total Station and Data Collector technology. A working knowledge
of Global Positioning Systems is an asset and excellent communication skills are
essential.
Preference will be given to applicants possessing OLS/CLS credentials and a Bachelors
Degree in Survey Science or the equivalent. Candidates should exhibit skills allowing
them the ability to estimate project costs, supervise and motivate field and office
staff, liaise with clients, meet timelines and oversee large projects from inception
to completion. There may be occasions when out-of-town travel will be required,
depending on the demands of the project.

Mapping Technologists
Candidates must be capable of producing digital topographic
mapping and orthoimagery from scanned aerial photography.
Knowledge of Windows NT, MicroStation and softcopy photogrammetric
mapping experience are assets. All GIS Mapping Technologists
work out of our corporate head office in Markham.
GIS Utility Technologists
Candidates are responsible for the conversion, interpretation, and mapping
of data for major utility companies. Applicants must have a GIS Diploma
or Certificate and those with previous experience working on utility or municipal
projects will be given preference. Software experience with Microstation,
AutoCad and ArcInfo are assets. This position may involve shift work.
Markham.

Intermediate Planner
The Planning group is a growing consulting division of J.D. Barnes Ltd. This position
reports to the Planning Manager and primarily provides services from our Markham head office.
The successful candidate will be responsible for day to day project management and client
liason on assigned projects as well as assisting in marketing and busness development.
Applicants must have a minmum of 4 years of land planning and project management experience,
preferably in the private sector, a degree in planning or a related field, experience working with
professionals within a team environment and well developed organizational, reporting and presentation
skills. Some experience in municipal public meeting presentations, proficiency in MS Office as well
as familiarity in supervising CAD drawing preparation is also required. Membership in CIP/OPPI is
preferred
Senior CAD Technician
The successful candidate must have extensive experience in legal boundary work, project
management and a thorough knowledge of field methodology as well as a
strong knowledge of MicroStation software and a proven ability to perform
calculations accurately with high production.
Applicants must also have excellent communication skills along with the ability
to learn new field and office surveying technologies.
This position is available in our Ottawa office.
