John D. Barber

John Barber started working for Herbert L. Coons as a student back in the 50’s and each summer thereafter until it was sold to Jack Barnes in 1960.

John graduated from the University of Toronto in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and became a full time employee of J.D. Barnes Limited.

In 1964 John was commissioned as an Ontario Land Surveyor and a Professional Engineer and was promoted to manager of control surveys at Barnes.

From 1964 to 1974 John was the Manager of the Control Surveys Division working on Canada wide projects.

In 1971 John was commissioned as a Canada Land Surveyor and became the manager of the Geodetic and Photogrammetric Divisions.

From 1974 to 1984 John was the General Manager of the Toronto office that was comprised of four operational divisions and eventually became Vice-President of Operations for the firm.

In 1976, John Barber was elected President of the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors.

In 1984 John became president of J.D. Barnes Limited and also served as President of the Canadian Institute of Geomatics.

John was chair of the 'Geomatics Industry Association of Canada' in 1990.

In 1994, John Barber resigned as President of J.D. Barnes Limited and served as Vice-President of Finance until recently.

John is presently on the Board of Directors of J.D. Barnes Limited and also serves on the Executive, Compensation and Nominating Committees of the firm.
